IOMEGA Select Desktop Hard Drive, 1 TB
Hi all. Newbie here. I bought a new IOMEGA Select Desktop Hard Drive, 1 TB last week. I let it come to room temp over night and hooked it to my desktop computer. I waited....I waited more...and more. It never gave me the bubble over the tray saying "New Hardware Found". I have plugged, unplugged & replugged it in so many times I should have worn out the plug! To make it short I have spent many hours switching ports, switching power cords, switching usb cables, even switching computers...and this drive will not come up on any computer in anyway shape or form. It's like it doesn't exist except in my hand! I am running an Intell Pentium 4, 3.06GHz, 2 GB ram, with XP Pro, SP3. I have other large drives hooked to this machine and
they are all fine. So...is it a dead drive out of the box?
Any help & suggestions will be appreciated!

Hi and welcome.

Firstly a what? Never heard of that hard drive....
Does the drive appear in disk management?
(right click my computer on the desktop, click manage. Then go to disk management and see if the drive is there and just not activated).I7 920 @ 4.2Ghz/6GB//GTX480 SLI/M4 64 GB + 1.5 TB + 2x 640 GB/Corsair TX950/ASUS blu-ray/ASUS P6X58D-E + X-Fi /LC PCK62

thats what I am thinking, but I am not good with that part of computing. I've used a computet everyday for probably 15 years, but maintaining is not something that comes easy to me.

ok...I tried to reply here yesterday, but I couldn't do it. I was sent to a page to sign up again. Anyway today I can reply to posts so I will answer Aaron_8015 now.
First of all, when I said "and this drive will not come up on any computer in anyway shape or form" I thought everyone would understand that meant it does not show in up in "my computer", disk management, or anywhere else. I get no bubble from the tray about "new hardware found and also I noticed last night that it doesn't make any sound. My other drives can be heard spinning up when plugged in, but not this one. Anyway, here's the drive: https://iomega-na-en.custhelp.com/ap...354080/p_flow/ . It tppk me probably 2 hours to find it on their site because its not in any of their lists to pick from in any catagory. I stumbled onto it by accident somehow.
Anyway, now that I can actually converse with you all, what are the thoughts on this drive?

just to update this...the tech at IOMEGA finally decided that the drive was bad...after sending me a new power cord and making me redo all the trouble shooting with him on the phone that I had already done myself many times. It should be here today sometime. Take my word, I doubt I will ever buy from them again. PITA!!!! (pain in the @$$)
