FAT32 Repair Utility
Is there such a thing as a FAT32 (Editor / Repair Utility)?
Everything I've found so far is really an undelete utility (which is not the issue, see below)?
The drive is a duplicate backup/copy of files so the data itself is no big deal.
I'd like to try to fix the FAT32 manually (mostly for the educational experience).
Please advise.
Thanks, Tracey
Issue: I changed a partition from NTFS to FAT32 using Partition Magic 8.0.
Now Win2K Disk Defragmenter shows the 74GB drive as a 9.6GB drive.
When I copy some files I get a message that the file is corrupted.
I can run chkdsk /v without revealing any errors.
I ran [testdisk_win.exe from CGSecurity.org] which fixed errors in the boot record/portion, but reports that there is nothing wrong with the FAT.Last edited by Tracey2031; April 8th, 2011 at 02:31 PM. Reason: clarification

It is probably why MS has no way to convert NT file system, to FAT or FAT32. (FAT/FAT32 to NT, they do though)
If Partition Magic can't fix it, probably nothing will.
If you partition, and format with FAT32 or NT, everything will be fixed.(NT is better)
There is no reason I can think of to use FAT anymore, except for floppies.
No real reason for FAT32, unless you have a drive smaller than 10MB,(I think).Last edited by stroyal; April 9th, 2011 at 11:56 AM.

OK.
I post another question as a new post since this is a dead end issue.
Thanks, Tracey

You know Rootstonian, I was doing some thinking today while riding my motorcycle. If you really want to protect yourself, get something like virtual box (free) and Ubuntu desktop and install chrome...
