    IDE Channel 7

I received the following error when booting up. After which I press F1 and Windows starts:

IDE Channel 7 S.M.A.R.T. Status BAD, Warning immediate backup your data and replace your hard disk drive, a failure may be iminent.

Is this my hard drive or one of my CDROMS. Note that my hard drives are connected to sata connections not IDE. I am thinking this error may be one of my CD ROM drives which are connected to my IDE connections.

    Does anyone know for sure?

We have no way of telling you what is on IDE channel 7, we dont have access to your machine. You need to figure out what device is plugged into IDE channel 7

SATA hard drives run in 'IDE mode' unless you load a RAID or AHCI driver during the installation of the operating system. ALso CD ROMs don't have SMART, that's a hard drive thing.

My apologies. I forgot to mention a couple of things.

My boot drive is a SSD. I replaced my SSD with a convetional drive and I still got the same error!

SSDs don't have S.M.A.R.T. either, AFAIK.
