External HDD not working anymore?
So last month I bought myself a nice external HDD, a 320 GB Toshiba, small and nice, alimented by USB.
Back then I used to have my old keyboard, an old A4Tech model, simply connected to my PS2 port.
I connected my HDD to my netbook, no problem, worked like a charm... well, not really great speed but you know, nothing too bad. Then I connected it to my PC via an USB extension cable, which I used so that I wouldn't have to go to the back of my case every time I connected something, but it wouldn't get recognized! I panicked, and connected it directly to my PC, in the back in one of the ports, and yey! it worked.
This until a week ago, when I bought my fancy Logitech G510 keyboard which is connected by USB. Then weird things started happening: the HDD wouldn't get recognized while the keyboard was plugged in! I used to unplug the keyboard, plug the HDD, it got recognized, and then plug the keyboard back in, which also meant around 25 seconds of waiting for the keyboard to reboot before being functional; but I managed... I just thought it's not such a big problem, I can work with this.
A few days ago, something changed, I don't know what, but now it doesn't get recognized at all anymore: I plug it in, nothing; I unplug the keyboard and plug the HDD: nothing; I unplugged every single other USB device I had and only plugged the HDD: NOTHING! Heck; I even unplugged my mouse, dammit! ... I don't know what to do anymore; the little LED on the side is on whenever I plug the HDD, but the thing itself doesn't get, maybe accepted or something...
While all this was happening, the HDD never had problems being recognized on my netbook, where it still worked nicely, but the thing is: I bought the HDD in order to be able to transfer stuff from my PC directly onto it, not to copy stuff through my wifi, I already had that before!
INFO: I have windows 7 on both my devices, same edition, no major differences, nothing changed, as far as I know, between the time when the HDD was getting recognized when I disconnected the keyboard and now... Oh wait! damn ... I've upgraded my video card in the meanwhile, actually ... could that have something to do with this?! it's the only difference I can think of :[ ... I used to have an ATI HD 4550 and now I have a nVidia N250GTS.
Thanks a million times in advance for any help I get!
Andy
