hd cache ?

How noticable would the speed diff. be between a hard drive with 2mb cache and one with 8mb ? Would it be better to get a 80gig with 8mb cache or a 100gig with2mb? The price is very close if not the same.

Of course a drive 8MB buffer is faster (but not always and not much) ..

To make up your mind, read this and see the difference in benches between a 8MB and 2MB drive buffers, then decide if you want more space or a little more speed ..

Regards

From what I have read (and not sure where) but basically if you are not planning on doing alot of image or video editing or alot of file sharing then the 2mb cache will do you fine.

I have all my drives (3 of them) with only 2mb cache and a system at work with 2 - 80gb 8mb cache and couldn't notice any difference. I am sure a benchmark could but I couldn't.

(doing video editing from VHS tapes)

One thing that you have to bear in mind is that cache speed doesn't really matter that greatly when you are using IDE technology. Using a IDE inferface will be the bottle neck in performace. Take a SCSI drive where it can utilitze the higher cache amount through it faster bus (using a 64 bit bus).
