    1. They may have been produced a while back and are good dyes.
    2. You may be shocked when they don't play in some car/home players.
    3. Sometimes I get pops when burning music too fast.

    I have a Lite-On 40x12x48 burner. It comes with Smart-Burn.

According to Lite-On's website...... Innovated SMART-BURN® technology = Automatically checks media quality and sets limit to burning speed to ensure successful writing sessions & data retainability.

I still have about 25 or so 24x cdr's left that I have been using. I haven't run into any problems leaving the burner set to max burn speed 40x, on the 24x cdr's.

if you have the smart-burn enabled, it may be automatically adjusting the speed downward without you knowing it. it really depends on the quality of the media - some burn at 40x, some do not...

    PresterJohn.......

That is what I was getting at. I guess I just didn't come out and say it that way.

Mine goes all the way down to 12x sometimes (from 32x), b/c of the smart burn...but no coasters yet!

Doc pretty much hit it on the head. I have lots of problems if I try burning my discs over thrir rated speed. Garbled sound, skips, etc. The problems are not always apparent on all CD players (almost seems like the more expensive the player, the more sensitive it is to CD quality)

If want to play your CD's in a late model Chrysler CD player - good luck unless you have just the right combination of burner and brand of discs.
