VCD and PS2

ok. i am not very familiar w/ video cd's. i was under the impression that they can be used in dvd players as well as on the pc. i burned one with nero and tried it in my brothers playstation2 which plays dvds. nothing happens. it says "please insert a playstation or playstation 2 disc". did i burn it wrong or does ps2 not support vcd? or am i crazy and do not know what i am talking about anyway?

to be sure i don't know if ps2 in this site means playstation 2

just because the ps2 has a dvd player does not people it will always play VCDS. it has to support the format. im not familar with the formats the ps2 plays.


from looking around online you need a mod or an adapter to get the vcds to work, but other websites say to use tempeng which that site aboves uses. try the link and report back to us

The playstation 2 is only capable of MPEG 2 video playback which is what DVD's are encoded in. A VCD is encoded as MPEG 1. You could try encoding a video as an MPEG 2 format with TMPGEnc and using Nero burning it as a SVCD (Super Video CD). I don't have the PS2 as of yet but am going to purchase one in the near future and will post back with my findings. Hope this helps.

Doom9,net should have some articles... you will have to do some video conversion to make it work but supposedly it can be done. Never tried though. I was told by some people who said they were doing it that once they got it converted for the PS2 it would only play on the PS2 and their computers but no longer in regular DVD players. I've tried regular VCDs and have had no luck. Haven't tried SVCDs. Someone please post findings.
