| .ISO
It also seems WinIso doesn't like .ISO files, I just tried to open and burn an .ISO file with it, and it came up with the same error as it did when trying to burn the .IMG file I just posted about?? Win...ISO?... ok well I'm confused, but it's ImgBurn to the rescue yet again, so whatever the problem with WinIso is, it's not that my files are corrupt? any ideas why it would be doing this?
Sorry I'm not tryin to hog this thread just letting people know my findings.. |

| How I burnt a .img DVD file...Thanks everyone
Hi There, I had a problem with how to burn a large .img file to DVD and I read through this entire thread to find an answer. I decided to try DVD decrypter, and found the last version on doom9.net. However Undeadlord mentioned imgburn.com so I tried that instead. This is a great software program and I can highly recommend it to anyone looking to burn an .img file. Thanks everyone.

I'd say the easiest way is to make a clone DVD drive with Daemon tools, use the image and then copy the disc from the clone DVD drive to a real DVD disc using any program |

| going on 6yrs - still no native support for .IMG
OK, I've been and IT Admin since the Win95 days and couldn't believe how long this thread has gone. Here it is Dec8, 2006 I just downloaded MS's Volume License Key of Vista Enterprise that was released just last week - yes the real version, not a release candidate or a beta. The download page said the file was going to be an ISO, but it was an IMG file. Hence, this is how I stumbled on your thread.
Why is it after 6 years a multi billion dollar company cant seem have their current OS <WinXP> burn IMG files natively? My Nero does not show IMG to be a natively supported format either but I'll try renaming the ext ISO just to see if it will work or not.
Not even the free buring software imgrecorder supports img.
Long Live the Thread.

| Changing extension worked in Nero 6
Well I changed the .img file that I had from MS Volume License Copy of Vista Enterprise, to the ISO ext, and it burned fine using Nero 6.6.0.16 on WinXP SP2. |

Ah yes the thread that never seems to die Its nice to see that a thread I started so long ago still has useful information in it.
In that regard, I am going to post some current software I use and hope it helps others. ImgBurn 2.1.0.0 - This software burns an amazing number of image formats, I can't find a list, but I use it for .img, .iso, .nrg, .mds and more, just a quick look shows over 15 formats that it will handle. Also builds ISO's from your HDD. Deamon Tools 4.08 - I have this on ever computer I own. Its the standard for CD emulation tools. Have an ISO or IMG your want to test? Don't want to waste a CD? Use Deamon to load the file and you now have a mounted image file. Just that easy. Handles CD ISO's DVD's ISO and so much more I can't even mention it all. Please go check it out if your interested, very easy to use program. UltraISO 8.6.0.1936 - The only non-free tool I use. A great ISO creator, editor, etc. Lets me load up a variety of image formats, convert them to ISO and back, lots of great uses. Not a tool I use everyday, but when I need it, its so good to have it.
Hope that helps some folks.

| Watch out for Deamon Tools
OK I was a big fan of Daemon tools until I found out changes your kernel. This then has a bearing on service packs and hotfixes working. It also goes in an can change associated GUID ID's on itself or other programs.
Has it changed much?
Background : I had some serious error back in 2003-2004 and traced it to Daemon tools modifying the kernel, check your boot.ini and see if it's standard or modified to boot differently with daemon tools.
That is when I found out that gaming companies loath gamers creating virtual CD\DVD's from their friends CD's and runnign the games for free. Originally the gaming companies simply looked for associated GUID's of Daemon Tools at install, and if Daemon Tools was on the gaming machine the game would disable itself and rendered itself unplayable. So then Daemon tools tried to skirt around this by starting to change associated GUID ID strings.
I hadn't messed around with optical images and virtual drives that much until I started messing around with MS Virtual server. Then I stumbled onto programs such as:
ISORecorder (Free)
-supports free DVD burning in Vista
- take any CD or DVD and make an ISO image of it
- you get the idea
See http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/Vista.htm
ISO CreateCd (Free)
- burn/inflate any ISO image to media http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/CreateCD.htm
ISO Buster
- manipulate, add, remove date from/to ISO and other image formats
enough dribble drabble. I gotta get back to work! |

Is that your unbiased opinion? You have only 10 posts over the last year and a half, and all of them are for magiciso.com or yasasoft.com... |
