Data recovery

Would anyone know about how much it costs to send a dead drive off and have the data recovered from it. I had about two years worth of pictures on this drive and it just died. I seems mechanical. Drive just makes a buzzing sound. so I think recovery is possible.
What is the old saying BACKUP BACKUP.
tks

in the uk there is a company that does it for £75 a gigabyte.

i recently had a drive go down full of important files, luckily i found an exact same drive for sale i bought it swaped the board over and it worked!
you could try the same if you can find the same drive.

i did think about swapping the platters over but that could get messy!

i wonder if they charge for recovered data or the complete size of the drive. My pictures are less than a gig but the drive is a 30 gig drive. I guess Ill contact a couple of services and see. Thanks for your reply

If you are willing to BUY a software package to do this, I would recommend R-Studio. I bought it myself to do some data recovery for a friend, and it works wonders.

Cheers

Not a good idea at all. The tiniest particle of dust or spot of grease or fingerprint on the platters or anywhere inside the drive could cause it to quit working - permanantly.

i tryed the freezer thing. No Go
I guess that I am just out. I checked with a couple of companies that recover data, but the pictures are not worth a minimum of $500.00
Tks
