Recoving the Past: When Your HD Dies.

Scenario:

Primary IDE "master HD with one primary partition(C) and one extended partition(D).

Secondrary Master HD with no primary partition and one extended partition (E).

[As you can see, this is a most simple case senario.]

Primary Mastery dies.

Data prudently saved on Secondary Hard Drive.

QUESTION: How do you get to it ? Won't attempts to intall an OS repartition the backup HDD, and destroy data ?

Would formating the Secondary drive in advance, Primary (empty] and Extended help. Install OS on empty Primary partion of Backup hard drive?

Question II: Can an OS be installed on this empty Primary partion, without disturbing the extended (or "logical" partition ?)

Any other creative before the fact planning for data catastrophy?
Yes, of course, data should be backed up off-machine --and even in a different location or house.

But what's the point of using a backup drive, unless you can move right in and use it in the box?

ThanX,

DOOOOOOOOG

"Can an OS be installed on this empty Primary partion"

what is it? an empty partition or no partition? if it is an empty partition you can format it and install an os in it without affecting the data in the extended partition. hope that helps.
