Winxp SP1 and zip drives
Having a problem with WinXP and zip drive. I finally installed SP1 two days ago (also installed Norton Internet Security w/Norton Anti virus 2003 three days ago) Went to use my USB powered zip drive today for the first time since upgrades. All my zip disks (250 as well as 100) are reported as being unformatted disks. I also tried the 100MB disks in my internal zip 100 with the same message indicating they all require formatting. I know they are good, and that they contained data last week. Also both zip drives worked fine last time they were used a week or so ago. I downloaded and installed the latest iomegaware software with no help. Both drives show in My Computer with the same drive letters as before and are recognized as zip 100 (drive F)and zip 250 (drive H) just as before
Before I un-install SP1 does anyone have any suggestions.

Atleast your zip drive works.... i've got an older parrallel model, and the darn thing quit working when i changed from win98.... i dunno if the drive is stuffed, or if something is stuff in my system config.... I've spent time online with the live tech support and still had no luck, so i'm thinking the drive is stuffed..... It'd be nice to have a new drive, but i just don't think its worth it for me. I don't know anyone else with a zip drive, so i only used it for saving stuff for myself, but then for that i might aswell us CD's (which i do).... So yeh, i'm stuck with a zip drive that i dunno if it works or not, plus 2 zip disks which i can't use at the moment, and can't sell to someone else cuz they have sensitive info on them.
Have you tried the drive/disks on a different PC?

Yes JayMan,
I checked the USB powered drive today at the office and it works just fine. Sees the disks and all the files on them. I use the zips to transfer large files between work and home to work on for back ups as well as the company web site which I usually work on at home-can never get it published through the firewall at work.
Well thanks for responding
hopefully someone else might have some ideas

I want to start bring my work home from the office too, but I have a problem. My computers at work are really old, so I,m not sure what the best way to bring the info home is. I went to staples to get a disk drive and maybe the software (act) but instead the man working there gave me this email address and said I should get windows xp, he thought that would be better than a zip-drive.
My computer at home is a BCM GT133KT B03 windows 98 SE (build 4.10.222) 600 megahertz AMD Duron 32 kilo primary 64 kilo
secondary 256 Megabytes Installed MEM 30.25 giga usuable 21.97 giga hard drive free space. My computer at work uses the metal bottom tapes.
I want to bring the information back and forth from work without leaving any info on my computer at home. Does anyone know how xp could help?? Don't I have to get a disk drive to play those really old tapes, I'll try to remember to bring a tape home so I can say exactly what kind it is, and what year my computers are at work.Last edited by kiefer; November 27th, 2002 at 12:23 AM.

We have an outrageous system of executive compensation in his country. If the huge salaries topped by even huger (is there such a word? :heh:) were the outcome of free market competition, I would...
