| YAMM (Yet another musical maxtor)
Yep - another musical maxtor. I didn't drop mine, just left it running all night on top of a PC. I'd wager overheating (not that it was actually being used, just powered-on).
Product: OneTouch II (E31G250)
Drive: DiamondMax 10
Model: 6L250R0
250GB PATA133
Gave it a bit of a tap but no luck... I'd say she's history. Got about a years worth of fairly heavy use - but lost all my work Virtual Machines! *ouch*.
... I wonder if you can caddy a SCSI. |

The thing is i plug it into a mac and in the disk utility program it shows up BUT it says its a 2 TERABYTE hard drive when its only 200 gigs...
I plug it into a PC and it makes the ding noise and it knows its a maxtor drive plugged in USB and i run data recovery programs about 5 of them so far, and their all saying 2 terabytes as well. what gives??? i dont even know how its registering when the disk isnt even spinning...im going to try tapping again while plugged in but can somebody please write back or email me which is my name at hotmail.com
PLEASE HELP IM ALSO A DJ WITH ABOUT 190 gigs filled up. not just music but personal things as well. | thats what i said before, now i opened up my hard drive and completely disassembled it to see if there were any stuck arms or motors not turning I SHOULD TAKEN PICTURES SORRY GUYS! and ive narrowed it down to the center of the drive closer to the side that DOESNT have the power and data connections. The center of platters the drives themselves. i took them all out and put my finger where the vibrations come from but i have NO IDEA how to get in to that area its like in the middle of the case, you would probably have to BREAK the case to get in there and even after that i have no idea what could possibly be done. im gonna try to look for some hard drive diagrams on the net.
I was also wandering if i took the actual platters (drives) out and but them in another maxtor do you think they would read???? this is one of the only things i could possibly think of to do without sending it off somewhere.
please someone email me at MizztaPeppa@hotmail.com or myspace message me at myspace.com/mizztapeppa THANX!!! |

seems like the bottom of the spindle is the cause of all this. Why i dont know? heres another pic of it with the platters removed which you can kinda see.
i Shall look into this spindle thing.

thanks all!!!! | I'm gonna say similar to the previous person in as much as I don't know how much it'd be in AUS$, but I know that here (in the Land of Eng) you take your broken HDD to the recovery company, and take along your wages for the last month or two................

I have the musical maxtor as well. Brand new 500 gig external one touch 2. Worked for 2 days. then my dog knocked it off the table and it never worked after that. I had some important and private info on the drive, so I could not send it in for warranty. So I tried tapping, beating, all that and nothing worked.
I took it apart today, and the arms go across the drive making the noise, and stop. The platter never spins. Whats up with that? I tried rotating the platter to see if it spins freely, but it doesnt. Should it? Please help. Is the motor not working? Is it replaceable? |

I was bored today and came across my old Maxtor that I posted about back on page 8. I havent done anything to it since then so I put it in the freezer last nite and went to bed. This morning I took it out and did the "pizza box" shake and it started working
Copying my old files right now. |

do u think i will be able to retrieve my data? its very important
im willing to pay for a recovery service instead of banging and freezing it. |
