Mine too....

My Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 120 Gig just started doing this today..... I've been in IT for 15 years and never had an HD do this.... I couldn't believe that the sound was coming from the drive. Freaked me out. Glad this forum's here.

Gonna get an external HD first, then will try the suggestions on here to save my data.

well i found this site after my hd started singing i tryed the hook up and shake it and it made my hd spine up. i was ready with a nother hd so i was able to save a lot of data.

The problem with these Maxtors is that spindle gets seized. Bearings probably... This sound is produced by the voice coil of the motor itself trying to spin up.
The heads are not a problem - they are supposed to be parked on the inside circle.
