| Lite-On CDRW stops working over time
My Lite-On 48x12x48x (LTR48125W) CDRW will stop working after an extended period of inactivity, like overnight. It does not respond when trying to open normally. I can do a manual eject and load a CD, but it will no read it. The only thing that seems to fix it is to restart the computer, then it comes back to life. I have the latest firmware and have the drive set up as master on the secondary IDE. My Lite-On DVD has no such problems. Any ideas? |

My W98SE box despised an older 4x2x6 IDE (Yamaha), and one reason was because the ASPI layers were not matched revisions. ASPI requires two software components, both must be the same revision for best results; but usually the CDRW software provides only one of the 2 parts, and thus you have mismatched versions. I think XP has a similar problem. If the ASPI layer is leaving the CDRW in a confused state, software eject might fail, while manual eject could override it. Adaptec link to the ASPI software includes a testing routine which does not install anything. And the software is definitely used for XP. HTH. |

Mine did the same thing. I found that it was because I was using older CDRs rated for 12x speeds. Make sure you have at least 40x capable media. |

Thanks for the link dunbar. I'll give that a try once I get home.
I'm not sure if its the media or not. I usually leave the drive empty, but I'll try sticking a CD-R in there to see if the problem keeps occuring. |
