Hard drive enclosures

Do they really work?
(I'm talking about stuff like this one:

http://www.quietpcusa.com/acb/showde...t_ID=1&CATID=1)

I have an IBM Deskstar 60GXP which was quiet at first, but after one year of 16/7 (on only during the day) wear and tear, it (seems to) has gotten a lot noisier... at least in my imagination. Unfortunately, it hasnt totally crashed yet and I am on a very limited budget, so i can't get it replaced. Supposedly the 60GXP can take the extra heat, but is it really worth it?

i would seriously suggest you DO NOT use that...too great a danger of heat killing the drive.

the vendor claims that it is safe with even 7200rpm drives...my maxtors run plenty hot. i sure wouldn't risk my data on it.

what you can do is add some fans to your case. they will be louder then any hdd should be. when i turn my 3 front ones on i can barley hear any other computer noises from inside the case

and i could see mayeb using thoes enclosures for transport but not day to day stuff.

PresterJohn: so the 6.8 W power dissipation you think is exaggeration?

BobOmega: my case fans are as loud enough as it is

has anyone actually used these kinds of things before?

Anyone?

Does anyone know of any other hard drive silencers that actually work? That is, without melting the poor thing inside...
