hard drive failure?

Suddenly I could not boot my old HP Pavilion 8260.
The hard drive is a 4G quantum bigfoot hard drive.
I can still dectect the hard drive in BIOS.
However, even if I boot the computer using a floppy, I could not get into the hard drive.
It prompts something like:
Invalid drive specification ...

Is my hard drive really bad?

Thanks!

Jim

What OS are you using? if you are running XP and have NTFS then a normal win98 boot disk will give you this error.

Have you tried Fdisk /MBR (from the Win98 Bootdisk)

The OS is Windows 2000 professional.
Actually I used a DOS bootable disk.

I will try another bootable disk and Fdisk /MBR.

Thank you!
