Seagate ST220000 Hornet not recognized

Tyan S1837 'Thunder' mobo (Adaptec SCSI version)
2 - Quantum 8.4GB's on Primary Master/Slave (IDE)
Mitsumi 32X CD-ROM Secondary Master (IDE)
Seagate ST22000 Secondary Slave (IDE) (not being recognized)

I have tried every config imaginable to get this recognized, no dice. Master/Slave/CS.

This 'Hornet' is recognized on every other PC I've tried it on (9 of 'em). I used to have a Yamaha CD-RW as Slave to the CD-ROM, worked flawlessly. For some reason this tape drive just won't cooperate.

Discuss . . .

you might want to try putting in an add-in card.

i've had situations at work where i needed to install diffferent scsi tape drives to my servers and some models just can't seem to communicate with the scsi interface on certain models.

I guess I should have cleared it up a little.

It's IDE. I just referenced the SCSI to differentiate between the two versions of the board.

Unh-uh. Tried that as well.

I've tried:

Primary HDD's as Master/Slave

Secondary CD-ROM as Master
Tape as Slave
--------------------
Primary HDD's as Master/Slave

Secondary Tape as Master
CD-ROM as Slave
---------------------
Primary HDD's as Master/Slave

Secondary Tape as Master
No Slave
---------------------
Primary Just the freakin' Tape as Master

Secondray Not a freakin' thing
---------------------
At that point I got PO'd and kept myself from throwing the freakin' thing across the room.

Tried each scenario above w/ CS and manually setting them as M/S.

That's why it got to the point of throwing the freakin' thing. The jumber on the Tape drive is a b*tch!

I'm thinking it's gotta be something not with the drive itself, but maybe the mobo.

In one part of the BIOS (DMA Types), if I set them to PCI instead of ISA, then the floppy doesn't get recognized.

I'm rebooting it again to see if I need to change some other BIOS settings.

the next thing to explore would be a different atapi driver.

also what is the os on that machine...w2k? i assume you've got it working on other machines with the same OS as the problem one.

still think it is an atapi issue...
