Is this the only drive you have or is it a slave? If it is a slave have you tried to fdisk and format it? |

What's your machine? Older BIOSes could only handle 8.4 GB (although Maxtor's EZ-BIOS overlay can get around this limit). |

What motherboard did you install this on, you may have hit an 8Gig limit, Usually software that comes with the drive will allow you to overcome BIOS limitations of the motherboard. (Maxblast software) Theo beat me to it |

What are your system specs?
There were barriers to older systems in regards to what the BIOS could recognize. Fairly old systems had a BIOS that could not recognize anything above 8GB. Then there was a 32GB limit and now there is a large limit, which I can not remember the numbers (over 100GB). Your Maxtor installation disk has options for installing the MaxBlast software. It is not well written software, but ti should get your system to see the drive in its entirety. |

Ok, forget my post then. That mobo has a new enough BIOS for this to not be a factor.
What does FDISK say? If you format in DOS with a 98 boot disk, does it show the full 30GB? |

Did you choose to format with fat32? You must use this for large drives in win 98.
Ignore me, it's been so long since 2 gig was large..!
Edit: Welcom to TECHIMO, as you can see we are all eager to help!

Fat16 would have formatted it as 2GB partitions. If he gets 7.x GBs of data, he must have formatted it with FAT32.
edit: lol, Theophylact. |
