Sporatic CD-RW Speed
Hey, I just bought a Gateway 450SX4 Laptop with:
2ghz P4
30 Gig HD
512MB Ram
DVD/CD-RW 24x/12x/24x (Some Obscure Brand)
When I select 24MAX as the speed in Easy CD Creator, the actual write speed starts off at about 18x, drops to 6-8, then about halfway through the burn, it levels off at 11-13. I have a friend who bought a Gateway desktop and he has similar problems with his 48x drive. HEEEELLLPP MEEEEE!!!

Welcome to TechIMO!!!!

Anyway, Yep, Easy CD Creator is definetely your problem. Nero is the best way to go. I have had similar issues with Easy CD Creator before. I hate Easy CD Creator. It was OK when Adaptec owned them but, when Roxio took over it went to hell. Well, anyway Nero is the way to go. If you want to try out Nero just go to http://www.nero.com and download the free full version trial of it. If you like it (I am almost certain you will) go ahead and buy it.

Hey guys, I tried it but my burning still takes forever. Nero was pretty slow and NTI kept screwing up and not finishing.

You might check and see if there's a firmware update. It may be just a simple to call tech support and ask. If so, have them email you the link...
