    Liteon 52x24x52 very slow

    Hi

I've got a 52x24x52 liteon and using Nero 5.5.9.13 it takes around 6 minutes to burn a 700mb data CD at 52x. I know it should take less than half that time. Is there anything I can do to make it run faster? It is running on its own data cable, and not sharing it with the HDD.

Looking forward to hearing your advice.

    Thanks

I also have this drive. Well, not exactly it was originally a Buslink 48x12x48. It was a Liteon in disguise. So I heard of CDRW overclocking and flashed the firmware on the drive so it would become a 52x24x52. So now it is the same drive as what you have. It only takes me around 2.15 minutes to burn at 700mb disc. Anyway I suggest you upgrade the firmware. I believe you can get it from http://www.liteonit.com.tw .

Are you sure you have DMA enabled in windows? It sounds like you may be in PIO mode only, and thus you are getting slower data transfer rates, the data isnt being fed to the CD burner fast enough. Doesnt sound like a firmware problem to me.

I can tell you right now its not firmware, because I just upgraded the firmware, and burnt a 700mb cd at 52x in only 6mins 17secs.
How would I go about checking if I have DMA enabled. In Device Manager, under CDROM properties it doesnt mention DMA

    Thanks mate

That may be true, too. If you don't know how check and change this option, I will tell you before you even have a chance to ask. go right click on my computer. Then go to the hardware tab. Then go click on the device manager. When you get to the device manager go to IDE/ATA ATAPI controllers and expand the list. Then right click on the Primary IDE channel and click on properties. Then click on advanced settings. On transfer mode change it to DMA if available. Then click ok to confirm it. Then click on Secondary IDE channel and do the same thing as above.

EDIT: Well, you asked a minute before I could type it all up.

hehe thanks. For the second IDE channel it was set to PIO only. I'll reset now, and try burning a CD. I'll let you know how it goes

You guys are my heroes! I just burnt a CD in 2mins and 15 secs (660mb). Now the whole computer sounds like a plane about to take off when I start burining a CD. Plus you sorted out another problem of mine at the same time, which is the mouse would always get jittery when the CDROM was in use. Now its very smooth.

    Thanks again! :-)

YW from me and krohn. You know when I was looking on telling you how to do that I realized mine was set on PIO only for the HDD's and changed it to DMA and it works much quicker.
