| Help! Can't recognize Lite-on LTR 16102B
Hello!
2nd build and need help please!
I got a few problems that are just driving me nuts! I got the lite-on drive LTR 16102B(16x10x40) and I can't get it recognized by my software. I think I'm at a dead end(FORMAT!) The CD-RW is an add on 4 months later.(Best Buy $29.99 after rebates)
Here's my specs;
ECS K7VMA ver 1.0
Duron 750
256 Crucial SDRAM
Geforce2 MX200 64mb w/ TV-out
Blue Orb
Maxtor 15G 7200 Primary Master
Volcano II H/S
Delta DVD 12x Primary Slave
Lite-on 16x10x40 Secondary Master
300w P/S
I have NTI CD-Maker ver. 5.0 s/w that came with the drive and I had Adaptec 4.02. I did read in Adaptec after hours that it did not support this drive. It had f/w OSOB, now it is flashed to OSOF. I don't have the audio cable installed. What the hell am I doing wrong?
When I try to do anything in NTI, it says that I have no recordable drives installed! Both of my IDE controllers are there and just fine. It will work as a CD-Rom but that's it. I see a number of these posts, HELP! I am running IE 6, I think I read somewhere that this drive is not compatible with IE6. Anyone heard that? You can't go back to IE 5.5 without formatting......can you?
Thanks |

I've never heard of the NTI burning software. The last LiteOn drive that I bought came bundled with Nero Burning Rom, which is an outstanding burning program.
To see if it's a software problem, go to Ahead and download the free trial of Nero, if it works, you have a software bug, if not, you have a dead drive.
BTW - IE6 is not the problem, the system I just built has Win98se and IE6, the burner works perfect.
<edit - bad link, fixed now>

I have the same drive and it came with Nero 5. Most software bundled with burners only supports that burner. Nero is really great, give it a try. I have the registered version of Nero so I didn't use the bundled sw. It's well worth the price. Of course, in Linux I use GCombust. I rarely run Windoze. Germ

This is directly from NTI's website-support,FAQ's.
Question:
"When I drag and drop files into the program I get the following error: Cdmkr 32 This program has performed an illegal operation and will shutdown details Cdmkr 32 caused an invalid page fault in module SHELL 32.DLL at 015f: 7fce 314e "
Answer:
The latest release of Internet Exployer (IE6) is incompatible. For versions 3.x & 4.x you will need to uninstall IE6 and install IE5.5. For version 5.x, please upgrade to version 5.0.15 or higher to resolve this problem.
I also have a Buslink/Lite-on 12x10x32 burner and have no trouble burning with EZCD-Creator 4.02 in IE6. I did patch up the NTI software, 5.0.17, to where it would run, now I'm running Roxio 5.0 Platinum and that took care of my problem of only 2x-4x burning. Now I'm up to 16x.
I did try to update to 5.0.15, but I think that I downloaded the upgrade to the Professional Edition by accident and it wouldn't let me install. By then I was thoroughly frustrated, that I didn't notice what I had messed up on. You can't uninstall IE6, or at least I couldn't. It doesn't give you the option to remove program. I'm running 98SE.
The burner was labeled retail as a Digital Research, but the User's Guide says that the Warranty was under I/O Magic, but the drive has a sticker on it that says it's a Lite-On drive and that's what my computer recognizes it as. What the F**K? |

There are a lot of different brands of burners, but only a few manufacturers. The ones that don't build their own buy them rebadged from different manufacturers. The burner you have is a Lite-On and they are great drives. Germ |

Dump the NTI software, and get Nero. It seems to be the best solution, besides formatting and reloading.
I've never heard of a CD burning software being incompatible with a browser before
I guess I have now!  |
