| 52x24x52 LITE-ON!!!!SLOW!!!!
Hello, i have recently bought a 52x24x52 LITE-ON burner, and i have ALOT of 24x cd-r's.... So i use them then i'll get some more. But when i put the disc in, it says they can go 52x, so i tel nero to burn them at that, and it takes my cd 12 minutes for 650MB!!!!!!!! That's like 8x speed!!! Anyone have any ideas? I havn't updated frimware, could that be the cause? I don't know what to do! |

Are you trying to burn 24x cds at 52x?
Maybe a speed conflict?
try setting the speed manually to 24x. |

I just updated my firmware, burned with the 52x cd they gave me, same results, 12 minutes, DMA is turned on as far as i know, when i check on it in the system control panel. What ia SYNC DATA TRANSFER DO and the DISCONNECT option? I have no idea what to do. I am thinking of goign and buying a IDE cable then trying again. Could the one i have be too old? It is abotu 4-5 years old. I use to have a 2x cd-rom so this was a BIG HUGE update, i just woul dlike it to go a little faster!
Oh and my NERO version is 5.5.10.9

Browse to the Nero folder under Programs. There should be a folder called Nero ToolKit. Inside the ToolKit folder you will find 3 applications. Nero CD Speed, Nero DriveSpeed and Nero InfoTool. All 3 of these applications should help you figure out whats going on. |

From my own experience if your system is not that fast, burning from your hard drive will be degraded tremendiously. |

do you think it is ALL because of my system which is a AMD K6-2??(500MHZ) Reqirements are 233Pentium2. Windows98se. Would it really slow down to 12 minues caus eof my CPU speed?(my hard drive is a 30GB WD under 20ms random access time) |

You are just believing in numbers too much.
Those 52x burners reach this speed only at the outermost rim of the CD; they're much slower while working on the inside tracks. Then, burning the lead-in and lead-out as well as the preparation of the drive for the burning haven't sped up AT ALL ever since the first 1x burners came out. So, the actual time savings from going from a 16x to a 52x burner is actually not that much.
Besides, those "fast" burners have very few inbetween speeds to select from; so if your HDD throughput doesn't let you burn at the top speed, you'll fall back to a much slower mode. |
