| Hard Drive Temperature...
I currently have running a Maxtor 60gig HD 7200 RPM.
Just yesterday i started monitoring it's temperature, and realized it seemd kind of hot (38C Idle).
Is this an ok temp for a HD?
what is the temp on your drives guys?
Thanks,

You can run a HDD hotter than that, but ideally, I think 38C is about the hottest you'ld want to run at. Mine are at 29C right now. I'm running two 10K rpm Raptors. Of course, mine are in an aluminum case, spread apart a few inches in the HDD rack, and each is directly behind an 80mm intake fan. |

Mine were pretty damn hot recently, but discovered that the fan I have by them was sucking air out, rather than in... it is amazing what hot air can do to a hard drives temps!! Still all is well that ends well..
Those temps should be fine, but it might be an idea to buy a case fan or two - intake and output front to back could help all your temps in one go! |

Thanks guys...
I have a pretty big case with 3 fans pulling air in and 2 blowing it out...
since i've been monitoring the HD, the hottest it gets it's around 40c....
I just purchased a HD Rack (enermax) with temp monitoring and a fan in it...
Hopefully that will help some.
ps: Idigguns... I was thingking of getting one of those raptors when i get a new motherboard that supports SATA... (not sure about that yet).
HOw are they? fast to notice a big difference?
I do a lot of Photoshop editing, flash animations, some video.
Let me know.. thanks. |

My 120GB Maxtor is behind a 3-fan bay cooler and is running at 39C. I'm not sure that's accurate.
My other hard drive isn't new enough to have temperature monitoring, but I'd imagine it's running hotter. |

Yeah, these Raptor's are definitely fast. I have two in RAID 0. I used to have four ATA 133 drives in RAID 0 on a four channel RAID card. There's a noticable difference in speed. I do a little photoshop, video, web design, gaming. Did you see the reviews on it? Here is one... Overclockers.com And here is another... Tom's Hardware. |

Thanx for the siguardian tip
I wish the 3rd number was my HD, it's always the lowest temp, I'm using mother board monitor, right now the temps are;
temp 1) 17C (unknown device )
temp 2) 25C ( case temp )
temp 3) 43C ( cpu ) |
