Spanned Hard Drives

I'm setting up my fileserver...I've got a Dual Celeron 400mhz system with 13.6gb and 4.0gb IDE hard drives, along with two 4.5gb SCSI drives.

What I want to do, is setup a partition about 2.0gb on either the 13.6gb or 4.0gb (could even do this on a 3.2gb) for my Windows XP installation. I want to span any space left over on the IDE drives to a single partition...then simply stripe the two SCSI drives (which I have done with no problem)

What should I have to do to span the IDE space left? Can I have a second primary partition spanned with another drive?

Are you going for the biggest possible volume? I dont recall of XP supports it, but a volume set will let you combine multiple drives of various sizes. Not very fast and not redundant at all.

2 gig is mighty small for a system partition, once you add in swap file. I would just make the entire 4 gig IDE the system drive. 2 gigs either way isnt going to make a real difference anyhow. That would leave you the 13.6 and 9 to do what you want with.
