I added a second HD to a W2k machine that was running fine. After installing the new drive as Primary Slave and jumpering it correctly, I went to My Computer and the Primary Master drive was now E: and the new drive was F:, and the CD was D: .... there is no C: drive showing.
I have tried everything I can think of but can not get the Master drive letter back to C:.
Any suggestions? |

The way I would do this is:
-open up disk manager
-right-click on the drive you want to be drive c, and hit "change drive letter"
-reboot
Then it will be seen as your C drive. It's the same procedure to change around any of your other drive letters, except CD drives don't require the reboot. |

It may not allow you to change the master as it should be set as both the boot and system drives. Why it would change it to E in the first place I don't know, but I've never been able to change it back to C when doing dual boots and multi-disk boots. |

Nighthawk: been there tried that and nothing.
Whir: It sounds as if you've experienced the same thing. All I did was add a second drive simply for storage and things got funky. The Primary Master was and should still be the boot and system disk. I've just got a straight forward simple setup of 2K... no dual boot etc.
NDC: apparently I have to be a member of Xtreme to view your link. I will get a membership and try again. I notice the similarity of the site name and your member status, coincidental?
Stranger: I'm not certain I understand. Are you saying one must be logged in to view my original post?

He was saying that anyone must be logged in to view NDC's link.
Ya, I've gone through the ranomization of disk IDs before. Not with a case like that, usually when I try to install on a primary disk and it sets the boot disc as the secondary for some reason. Windows is odd. |
