Terrible Hard Drive Benchmark
I have a Maxtor DiamondMax 60 - 7200 RPM 60 gig Hard Drive running ATA100 in three 20 gig partitions... When I bench it my scores are terrible.. I have the newest 4in1's installed and still my benchmark's are terrible in XP Pro..
Take a look at them here.
After a reinstall of XP and then rebenching my scores were even worse... around 13900
Then let me know what I need to do to fix this..

That is extremely sad. What file partition are you usuing NTFS or fat32?
My guess would be you need to configure your page files, and memory better. I'm not uptodate on XP's tweaks. But I'm sure you can find something at google on it. CTRL+ALT+DEL it to see if anything else is running. That could be a contributing factor. Some util running in the background or something.

I'm assuming these are Sandra benchmarks. You should have a score between 23,000 and 25,000 with that drive. Chech that DMA 5 is enabled, you're using a 80 wire cable. FAT32 or NTFS won't make that much difference. Maybe 300-400 points lower if you are on NTFS.

Sandra is USELESS for HD benchmaring. It tells absolutely NOTHING about how your drive performs and all this index numbers are a big joke! DONT USE IT!
For HD benchmarking you need HDTach (googl). This is the equivalent of wcpuid for your cpu. It will tell you if your drive performs within spec. This is the tool for troubleshooting.
Get it, use it and report back.
EDIT: Sorry for yelling but I think it sould be a sticky post on top of this page: DON'T USE SANDRA FOR HARD DRIVE BENCHMARKING.

XP is giving me the same scores. I am hitting about 16,000 with a I845 / Pentium 4 1.4 gig and a WD 20g ATA/100 7200 rpm HD. I hit 21,000 once. But haven't been able again. ??????
HDtach won't run in XP unless you register it. I have tried the "Intel Accelerator" and it made it worse, scores were around 12,000.

Well I must say it doesn't feel any slower... feels just as fast as it's ever been.

I tried many benchmark software and do not think they use the right algorithm, I have even time the general operations like opening application (for the seek time and read time), copying large file (for read time and write time). The result is that my drives (which are a Quantum Fireball Plus AS 40GB and a 2x Maxtor 6L0402J RAID 0) are fast only didn't show in the SiSandra disk benchmark and the Fresh Diagnostic disk benchmark. So I went for the HD Tach and here are my result - Quantum first and RAID 0 second:
512 PC133 SDRAM
VIA KT133A Chipset
HighPoint 370a RAID on board
Quantum Fireball Plus AS 40GB
Maxtor 6L0402J 40GB x2 @ RAID 0

You might want to install the latest BIOS for your board, and if that doesn't help, install VIA's PCI performance patch.
Background is, the VIA PCI arbiter is highly programmable (to lean more toward multimedia fairness or toward maximized single device throughput), with many older BIOSes leaning way too far onto the fairness side. VIA recently gave out new recommendations - but not all mainboard makers care, hence VIA's patch program.

i have 2x40GB 7200ATA133 Maxtor set at Raid-0 configuration.
i scored 34300 using siSandra 2002
which is a bit lower than siSandra's 2x40GB 7200ATA100 Raid-0's 36000 score.
if you using a single Hard drive runs at ATA100
it's hard to score like HD set at Raid-0.
So don't feel too bad.

One of the most accurate hard drive benchmarks out there is from ATTO. Get it HERE for all versions of windows. Just download where it says " Applications/Tools/Utilities"
