Searching for a good HD

These are my computer specs. I think I went overboard, but just pretend you didn't see the things you didn't need to see.

EDIT: You should probably just skip this part.. Because I don't think it will help much. I don't know if you actually needed my computer specs, but if you do for compatibility issues or what not here they are.

CPU: AMD Athlon(TM) XP 2100+ 1.7 GHz
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce3 Ti 200 128 MB
Audio Device: CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio Device (C-Media Wave Device)
Motherboard: ASUS A7V333
Hard Disk Drive: MAXTOR 6L080J4 IDE 80 GB (Actually 74.55 GB ?_?)
Memory: 512 MB
Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-M1612
HP CD-Writer+ 1800 (Super old)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Version 5.1.2600
Ethernet Card: Asound 10/100M Based Fast Ethernet Card
DirectX: DirectX Version 9.0b
Monitor: HP Pavilion M70 Monitor (Super old)
Mouse: Microsoft IntelliMouse (I have a few of these)
Internet Connection: Cox High Speed Internet (Cable)
CD currently in CD-ROM drive: HALF-LIFE Counter-Strike
Computer Case Details: AMD Athlon XP sticker on front of case that I actually got for free through one of the threads here a long time ago.. Missing a side panel so all the radiation seeps out right onto me =\... Little status LED light covers on the front of the case keep falling off, and my cat swallowed the one that covers the green status light.
Computer's Current Mood: Mad (dust me)

My little tiny 80 GB (Really 74.55 GB grr) hard drive is completely full. I download anything and everything I can get my hands on, and I recently got a Wacom Graphire 3 which had some nice software that came with it.. That pretty much killed the little bit of space that I had left. I fear for my computer's safety that I must get a new HD quickly before it dies on me..

So I have around $140 to spend, and I'm looking to spend it on a nice and reliable hard drive with as much space as possible. I don't know anything about hard drive speeds, types, brands, etc. That's where you guys come in.

Any suggestions?

Why don't you burn some of your stuff to CD-R/W? Just think, that would save you $140.

Burning 74 GB of junk onto my little 700 MB CDs would be quite a lot of work. I have thought of it though.. I don't really have a DVD-Writer so I would have to stick with the dinky little CDs. From what I hear DVD-R/Ws are pretty expensive.
