| Problem Burning 1x Media
can someone please help me out here, I am trying to get used to my new DVD burner and had no problem burning an +RW DVD, data disk but here's were the problem comes in when I try to burn another data disk, this time the media is different, -RW but the disks are from the same manafacturer, cant burn it in WMP9 or change the speed above 1x in nero or WMP9. I done a search on google for the manafacturer and found the disk that I have been trying to use with no succsess is Datawrite 4.7Gb DVD-RW, and the disks that no hassle with are Datawrite 4.7Gb DVD+RW but they had a speed printed on them and the one that i cant use are the -RW,but would the burner not determine what media has just been inserted and and the speed that it recommends, My burner is a Pioneer DVR106, totally confused with this -RW & +RW and setting the correct speeds for the disks, I installed this 2 weeks ago with no problems with CD-R either its just these -RW

does using they firmware updates does that not void the warranty, and I have just purchesed it 2 weeks ago, its just that speed on they disks that -RW & + RW thing that I am trying to get used to, it would probabley work if it was a faster disk, like x2 -RW dont wont to FW update now till I have more response, thx anyway =) |

You might also try a different brand of media...DVD burners can be rather picky about the type of media they will work with-even some of the media recommended by the DVDRW manufacturers will not perform as it's supposed to.
I don't think upgrading firmware would void your warranty-you'll probably find information pertaining to that in the EULA of the app used to upgrade the firmware, or you can contact whoever sold you the DVDRW. |

I was just thinking that it was all to do with the firmware update, was to burn 1x media. And the media that I'm useing is datawrite, my first burn went OK using datawrite 2.4x +RW, but when I tried to burn a datawrite 1x -RW that is when the problems started, and for the firmware update, I got my burner from the net, so will I need to get in touch with them to find out if it would void my warranty, if not mabe will install, got the utlility for checking firmware version adn the f/w update, just have to find out if it voids warranty, thx for ur response, =) |

Firmware does not viod the warranty as long as the firmware comes from the manufacturer. |

| I just bought mine a couple of weeks ago it was a PioneerDVR-106, were do you find out if it is 106D, is it by using the Version Utlility from that site, thx for response,
Edit- Read this on that site provided, and I' still confused, Quote: |

| does this mean that it will void my warranty,

I think the important part of that EULA is this:
"PIONEER EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND WITH RESPECT TO THE PROGRAM AND DOCUMENTATION"
This is talking about the software (i.e.; the firmware update), not the hardware. This does not void the warranty on the hardware, just gives them legal protection in the event that someone uses the software and has a problem...
