i think we need a hall of shame for for the dumping of flames, dodgy traders, and otherwise bad threads such as "will someone please give me a cd key for...".
we could all come and laugh at the threads or replies which had been hossed by the mods. don't know if you can move individual replies to a thread, or just a whole thread on the forum software, but i think it still should be done. no post count for posts in the hos, and perhaps locking of the threads, unless it can be shown that they should be left open. |

We tried something similar before. Heck, I made a second coming of ThreadWatch and got kicked from the Community for a little.

A Hall of Shame would only invite litigation. Who needs it and who will pay? Embedded in "paul9" the appropriate word "surreal". |

arky, it was some of your posts which brought this idea up in my mind, once more. you do seem to have an abrasive manner, which invites abrasive replies. what cause would there be for litigation? and when you ask who will pay, is that a reference to the costs of being sued for whatever reason? this being a tech forum, i think it would be best if inflammatory posts were removed from threads which were asking for tech help, when those replies offered no such help, and especially when those replies invited further flame replies. everyone who joins these forums is subject to the rules which are posted within. these rules are not tolerant of flaming and similar behaviour. no one, as far as i know, was forced to join the forum and accept the rules against their will, yet certain members have become quite rowdy in the past, or have been asking for cd keys and suchlike. some have been banned for this. a hall of shame could be an alternative to banning, letting a member have another chance before stronger measures are deemed necessary by the moderators. |

Instituting a "Hall of Shame" is not something we do around here. |

People who are new to message boards or don’t read the rules are the ones who usually make these simple mistakes. I’m not sure how calling these people will benefit the community as we try to make this as friendly as a community as we can.
everyone makes mistakes http://www.techimo.com/forum/t29648.html even when they are a legitimate post. |

I started the original threadwatch, but a certain major incident that happened a long time ago caused it to be nuked to oblivion (Hint: It twasn't the mod's fault...*some* people tried to steal it for their own nefarious purposes (but I"m over it now)). It worked for a while, but when things like that happen, it's not worth it.
-edit- Opps...I just ressurected a zombie thread.
Maybe I should be shamed.
Ah well! |
