Maybe a webpage with live chat with Techimo members could be nice? What do you guys think?

Well there used to be an IRC chatroom, but it was abandoned most of the time.

When we had it, no one would ever be in there. We had a couple of scheduled chats, but they were mostly empty too.

I dunno; sometimes I think it would be much easier to help someone in live chat than though a message board.

It could be useful but I don't think it's feasible if TechIMO is gonna stay free. Most of those live chat programs take up a LOT of resources and most hosts don't allow them for that reason. Though I don't really know what or how TIMO is hosted so I don't know what they have available to them.
I've stopped using AIM for basically this reason. I used to help people all the time on AIM but after my SN got out there people just wouldn't leave me alone. I'd go to sleep and wake up with 8 IMs or so saying "my puter is broke.... hlp me...". Even now when I sign onto AIM (with a different SN) within minutes I get an IM asking for help... And not too many people here have my SN.Have you met my friend AIM?"Be quiet, Brain, or I'll stab you with a Q-tip"

I'm just saying there are plenty of chat options besides a TechIMO chat room. I'm sure the bandwidth bill is high enough already.

May 4th, 2005, 04:37 PM #13That is happening to me more and more often. Weird because I mostly read the stuff in the tech area and not actually post. It does not bug me, I don't mind helping others.

I simply installed AIM on a forgotten super-old Gateway laptop, so it doesn't pollute my PC, and just use AIM Express whenever I need to chat.

It didn't bug me before either but now I just don't have the time anymore. I usually don't even get to go to sleep during the week anymore... And don't get me started about my time to eatIt does not bug me, I don't mind helping others.
... Everyone says I'm gonna kill myself... Well, we'll just have to see about that. If I had the time I'd be more than willing to help people online but I've got other priorities and other people to help.

BTW, a bit off topic, but anyone that uses AIM and doesn't like the ads and popups, you can use AIM Ad Hack"Be quiet, Brain, or I'll stab you with a Q-tip"

May 4th, 2005, 05:18 PM #17I guess, but to I don't really feel like giving out my name, and then I might be on msn while they only have aim. I can see why it's not feasible for techimo, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be nice.

Glad it helped. I got tired of seeing the Matrix ad, especially when it had that horrid music and I was already listening to something good. And I used to use GAIM but it started giving me problems. And I never really did like Trillian.
