Digital Camera's & Photography Forum
Digital camera's and computers go hand in hand now a days in many households. I for one would like to have a forum dedicated to digital photography, photography in general, and equipment.
What does everyone else think about the idea?
Cheers!

The problem with Photopost is that you can't search it. It's limited in it's approach to the questions of photography and it's equipment. Christmas is coming and the usual questions will be asked about what camera to buy, where are the reviews for....? Stuff like that.

The Graphic Design Forum doesn't get much traffic and is related to this. It might just be better to post this stuff there.

Ya, sounds good!

...one thing that I think would be good is to seperate the forums better...like a hardware and software section instead of having it all thrown together..."The problem with quotations on the internet is that the sources are hard to verify" - Abraham Lincoln

There's an old attitude amongst photog's that 20% of a photograph is done within the camera. The remaining 80% is done in the darkroom.
It's the 20% that I would like to see addressed in a separate forum. Film and digital.
Having to resurrect your photos via Photoshop is not a desirable result of your photography. Being able to publish photos with little to no manipulation is desirable and time saving. Photoshop won't correct motion blur or add it properly nor will it explain how you could have avoided the blur in the first place. The blue cast you get when taking pictures of people in the shade of a big tree on a sunny day. Why does this happen? Why are some things in my photo in focus and other things aren't? When do I need to use speed priority over aperture priority? How can I balance the 2 to get such and such results? What technic's were applied to get the uniformed lighting on the studio shot of the nice car? What do I need to know so I don't waste so many hours fixing my shots in photoshop, all the time?
Photography is not graphic manipulation via some graphic's editing program, although it may be necessary later. Photography is the use of a camera to capture a "real life" image and mold light to your desire. The term graphics when relating to photography represents "life like" recreation of the image after the fact.
A photography forum would a great place for those of us that are serious about photography and would like to share our knowledge with others. A place for people to post pictures for review and advice. A place for camera and accessory suggestion and advice.
Cheers!

I think it's a good idea. Either give Digital Photography it's own forum or at very least change Graphic Design to be Graphic Design / Digital Photography.
And since we're discussing adding a new forum here I think it would be helpful if we also discussed getting rid of a forum or two. Like why is Tech News Discussion a forum? Shouldn't that fall under General Tech Discussion. Do those two concepts truly need to be two separate forums?
Benchmarks? Why is that it's own forum? Judging by the number of posts I don't think anyone would miss it if it disappeared.
And what's up with a ClanIMO 3 Gaming Community forum? What's that all about? An entire forum for what??? maybe 15 people?
Gaming News Discussion? Not needed. Should fall under General Gaming Discussion.

In regards to Beemer's suggestion, I will think about how to best handle a photography forum, which does sound like a good idea IMO. It could take me a couple of days to evaluate the details and plan a course of action.

just as long as you dont end up like a corporate CEO: plan a course of action to create a course of action that leads to a never ending planning phase that gets nothing accomplished except raising the cost of the product

but thanks for looking into it
