Honestly I totally see where OuT is coming from, and I do agree it gets heavily abused.
It IS annoying to see in a serious thread where somebody puts as their only word in the reply "
"
Oh ... thanks for your words of wisdom.
On the other hand, as I mentioned before I do like to use it as sarcasm.. usually pointed at myself as in this thread.
I like the smiley and I'd like to keep it.. but its just one of those things that can be abused.
even if they do ditch it I'm keeping a copy for my own use

Get rid of all the emoticons, then. If you don't need one to show an irritated feeling, why should you need one to show a happy or sad or mad feeling?
I actually support them all going. The hell with 'em. Same with signatures. But that's a different topic for a different thread.

December 7th, 2005, 11:31 AM #85Now there is something that actually makes sense in this topic! If we want to get rid of one, let's just get rid of all of them...and since someone might feel intimidated by someone haveing better computer specs in their sig...get rid of those too.

I'm sure Out isn't intimidated by the danged thing. He's just saying that in a forum that is supposed to be helping people why do we need such an obvious display of disrespect.
But honestly, I'm wasting my breath. (or keystrokes as it were)size=1 rocks

Out... you just need to understand that some members are too stupid to formulate effective replies sometimes, so instead they use it (rolleyes) in certain circumstances to get under the skin of a few of our more easily offended members. They say stupid things they can't back up because they are idiots... and they have to resort to just rolling their beady little eyes around their empty little skulls when they can't formulate anything intelligent to say. It's an emoticon that is used as an insult more often than not. We might as well have a "hey you're a dumbass emoticon." The emoticon is used to circumvent forum rules.
I have eliminated the rolleyes with the ADBLOCK extension for FIREFOX. It allows you to block any image you want. You can even wipe out annoying avatars with it =)

December 10th, 2005, 08:07 PM #94And if you actually get offended (and I'm not talking about OuT, but those people who actually let things like that bother them) by an emoticon posted by someone such as Gomer has described, the first thing you need to do is log off TechIMO, turn off your computer, and learn how to be a normal human being with normal human priorities.
