How about a photo contest?
Anyone up for a digital photo contest? Winners by category and an overall winner.
Moderators who've recently returned from fancy European ski vacations would not be eligible.

Ya, sounds pretty cool...actually, I do have a good one...it is kind of a random pic(learning how to use our new camera at the time), but this picture turned out really cool!

(it is an ash tray...and no, the ash try isn't blue, and there was no blue light around when I took the pic...I was playing with the white balence.
)
...but where to go to get a good pic?

I was thinking of the same categories used in the gallery, toys, member pics, where we live, travel, etc.
It could either be for only newly submitted pictures or set a date range (anything uploaded in 2005). Do a face-off pair by pair.

Heck yeah. But I think some rules and catigories would be nice. A simple contest would probably be best at first, something with easy catigories like: Macro, Wildlife, Flowers, Sunset, Pets, Digitally Enhanced(in camera and post process), People, etc. Someone could come up with some unique ones too.

I'm up for it. We should also have camera categories: < 3 MP, 3-5 MP, 5.1-7 MP, etc. Then you have the professional camera section. It just wouldn't be fair to have some little, pocket-sized Canon go up against some $1000 Rebel.

January 8th, 2006, 08:37 PM #12I disagree completely. Many of the most famous photographs ever taken were taken on cameras not much better than a modern disposable. If you can take a picture you can take a picture. It would just bring about situations where better photos get shoved into a lesser catagory.

To the original post,
I have a roll of slide film that needs developed, then I'm in.

Yup, photography is all in the mind of the photographer, not the equipment he is using necessarily....I've got some great shots I took in black and white with my 35mm Minolta.
I'm moments literally away from getting my digital camera on layaway....then watch out!

Whine, whine...:p Going from lifting weights (which I love) to triathlon training mode isn't a whole lot of fun. I'm starting to enjoy the swimming a little bit, but running is teh suck.
