WYSIWYG Forum Post Editor Enabled
I have enabled the WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) forum post editor. It is supported by current versions of Internet Explorer and Firefox. The best part is the WYSIWYG editor does not suffer the redirect problems that have plagued some members when using the current enhanced editor. The only major interface difference is that the WYSIWYG works similar to a word processor in that you first highlight the text to be formatted, then click the button according to what format feature you want to use for the highlighted text.
For now, the WYSIWYG editor is a selectable option from the options panel of the UserCP. If you want to enable this feature, click here:
http://www.techimo.com/forum/profile.php?do=editoptions
Scroll to the bottom of the linked page, and then select the editor you want to use. Note that Opera (and most other alternative browsers) do not support the WYSIWYG editor due to DOM-related rendering support issues. If you set the WYSIWYG option, then load the post editor in Opera, you will still receive the old enhanced editor.

Same with me, Ming. None of the buttons on the top work for me.

I do not know what is up with Bingo's problem, as the formatting features work fine for me with Firefox 1.5.0.1. Bingo, do you have JS disabled by any chance?
Ming, I too have noted the smilie problem with Firefox. It is is related to a coding issue. I have already located the fix and forwarded the info so Scott can apply the required code edit. Hopefully it will be resolved over the weekend.

This should read from the "Options" panel of the User CP.

Works fine for me in FF 1.0.7 and 1.5.0.1.

Just that it won't let me scroll past smilie in the WYSIWYG editor. That's a bit too WYSIWYG, IMO.
Cheers

If pasting a long url address, the second line on, doesn't get linked.
The quote text wrapping button adds extra blank lines to the intended text.

February 25th, 2006, 12:00 PM #12How long is your URL? In my test, I was able to post extremely long URL links without line wrapping. If pasting a long url address, the second line on, doesn't get linked.
I believe you are talking about forced line wrapping. If using the WYSIWYG editor, you need to pay close attention to line wraps, especially for cut-and-paste text. The quote text wrapping button adds extra blank lines to the intended text.

whir, had the same symptoms here as trb and me.....so i had a little think.
i removed the usercontent.css ad blocker from the chrome folder (temporarily..
) and the top line the editor works ok after a FF restart.
maybe RR will know why this .css interferes with the editing options.

It is likely breaking the rendering of some element. Ad blocking via CSS for Firefox can do some rather strange things and is not really an ideal solution for content filtering. If you insist on content filtering, then look into a proxy filter instead.
