Add to Quick Link Drop Down
Hey guys, what if under quick links we had a section for each portion of the forums -
So under Who's online in the Misc. section have
TechIMO Community
- IMO Community
- Distributed Computing
- Suggestion Box
PC Hardware and Tech
- General Tech Discussion
- Applications and Operating Systems
- Technical Support
Etc.
Right now on Dial-up it takes up to 30sec to load a page, so if it isn't in the recent discussions, I'm not looking at it. It would be convenient if I could just go under quick links from any page that I am on and select General Tech Discussion etc. instead of having to go to the base Forum page.
Tell me what you think!

Eh...idk. I dont use quick links, so doesnt effect me either way. I cant relate to slow internet connections..

I'm not a fan of the idea only because I wouldn't want all the sub forums to drop down. If it was customizable so I can only have a few sub forums then yeah maybe. I do think however that the quick links drop down can be re-organized and some of the functions listed moved. Most of them should be listed under user-cp

It's a great idea IMO. I have very slow dial-up, and I move around a lot in the forums. Sometimes when I get a slow connection, it could take me up to 3 minutes to load up a thread (starting from the main page of course) and a drop-down menu would be better for people like me.

Well how many of you actually use the quick links now? If you never do then it wouldn't effect you really. . . I don't use them now because there is nothing there that I find of use but a list of the sub-forums would be VERY useful.

June 13th, 2006, 06:22 PM #12But there would be no point in adding it either, since no one uses it.

well if it was there the people on a dial-up connection or impatient people (the people on a dial up connection
) could use it to get around the forums faster.
EDIT: Also, I mean it's not like it is in your way, it is a drop down menu. The people that wouldn't use it wouldn't be bothered by it and the people that would use it would be happy
Win win situation

Seems this would be a duplicate feature. Scroll down the page. There is already a quick forum jump drop down menu.

Also, about page load times on slow connections, you can try using a proxy cache. Much of the content on forum pages is static, such as images and avatars. I use FreeProxy on my home LAN, and its caching module works decently enough.

Climate scientists I think have something in common with visual perception psychologists. one key concept is measuring light and finding a suitable scale for doing so which is complicated by light...
