the forum has experimented with more and less categories in the past. most users found that with more categories we ended up with categories that had no traffic and some that had lots and people were posting under the wrong topic even more. if you stick around for a while you will get used to the set up, and possibly end up like most of us browsing through the community section with one eye and looking at the recent discussions box with the other
