| Most Active vs Recent and Community
This is really for Rob or Scott but anyone with thoughts is welcome to chime in.
1) First off I would like to know what is the qualification for Most Active?
(ie, more than X posts a day with the last post happening in the last X hours or something along those lines)
2) The community threads have been bounced in and out of Recent Discussions in the past and they always end up overwhelming the tech threads when they are left in. Are there safeguards for this in Most Active or is this no longer cared about?
3) The ratio of Most Active to Recent Discussions. At the moment it is 2:1 in favor of Most Active. I personally would lean the other way (more Recent Discussions). Thoughts on this?
Thanks,
Jkrohn

I'm not liking the new change, I think they need to be switched ie: most recent discussions back in the big box and active ones in the smaller box

i agree with having most items in the recent discussion vs. the most active. i think they might have a similar safeguard that they did with the trade forums, only this time i think it might be the top couple are community, but the rest are tech only. if this is not implemented, it should be

I agree with richee. I made a post and it's getting almost no views simply because it was pushed out of the top so quickly. Just cus the first few people didn't know to respond. At this rate you'll have to bump once an hour just to get enough recognition to get a response if you're question is a bit more difficult |

1) "Most active" is based on average posts per second over the past 3 days.
2) A max of 5 community threads will be shown in the most active box.
3) This was just setup yesterday - we can try it either way. I thought it would be more helpful to identify the most active discussions rather than a grab bag of new threads/replies, no? |

The problem with that is it encourages responses to threads that are already getting help and have people watching them. I've noticed that i've posted 2 or 3 new threads w/ questions in the last 24 hours and haven't seen much of a response. It's much harder to get your thread noticed. I do like the idea of an active discussion box, though I would cut it down to posts per second over the last day, and make it 5 posts long (maybe max 2 community threads).
either that or make it so a thread in active discussions doesn't show up in recent discussions. When I made a post I was almost instantly kicked out of the recent discussions by posts already over in most active discussions. Just an idea. I like the thought behind it, it just poses some issues that need to be addressed
Maybe temporarily get rid of news & articles, make recent discussions take up both of those spots and keep active discussions the same size? That may help. Also, if you max active discussions to at most 5 threads, why not split that box into two. the 5 most active community/rr threads and the 5 most active tech threads?
/edit
Then new the news in a scrolling banner right below it!! That would allow you to fix more news & articles as they don't change as often. Might be a good idea??

I'm with sr71000; "most active" suggests they're already getting the attention they need. And it looks as though "Is it just me?" is a sticky... |

win for the little man :-D lol. I do like the active discussions box idea and would like to see it implemented like it was before. I think it's more useful than the news section and has it's place up top. I'd move the news so you can have 2 columns of active and 2 columns of most recent |

The point of "most active" is to drudge up the coolest discussions across the couple dozen forums so you won't miss out. |

I am digging the new setup after moving it to 1:2 ratio |
