Debate forum: above or below the community forum?
The question has been raised, is the debate forum higher or lower in importance than the community forum?
They say technology slows down for no one. I know it outruns my wallet. I figure its because my wallet isn't light enough yet.

I don't understand the question. The community section is for those who don't want to have to read the political bs people talk about all the time. Its a place to get away from the serious stuff and talk about other things.

Should I have used the word "better" or "more controversial" in mu question?
Actually I was thinking that the debate forum was more for the discussion of important issues instead of the simple commentary made in the community. They say technology slows down for no one. I know it outruns my wallet. I figure its because my wallet isn't light enough yet.

Is debate forum higher or lower than the community forum? If I answered yes to that what would I be saying?

I'll make the suggestion that this SUB forum of the Community actually be put down at the bottom since it is a SUB forum and therefore lower than the Community.

If you guys are talking about the subforum link appearing above the regular community forum threads, there is little chance of me rewriting a large vBulletin template to move it.
Go to most any vB site, and the subforums appear above the content of its parent forum.
If we are trying to apply strange standards to some type of hierarchy, DebateIMO is clearly a subsection of the general offtopic community forum. With that said, TechIMO is a predominately a "technical" discussion site anyway.

HI Rob,
Actually when I posted the question I was thinking of what Surreal said.Rises to the level of the debate forum or sinks to the level of the debate forum?
I consider the "level" of the debate forum to be higher than the community as it is more controversial, and therefore worth more to people than the community forum. I never considered suggesting changing its heirarchy.Last edited by no1_vern; June 14th, 2007 at 12:30 PM.

From the personal perspective, I don't have much use for DebateIMO, so I would be inclined to say the general community forum is more important to me, though admittedly perhaps not as important to others.
From the administrative perspective, I will say every forum section has its positives and negatives, meaning DebateIMO is no more or no less important than the general community forum. Each offers its own appeal, which is a personal choice issue IMO.

The two should not be compared.
Equal. Both serve their purposes, but are both "side shows".is the debate forum higher or lower in importance
The Main Attraction of site is obviously "PC Hardware and Tech".
Traffic wise: Community wins.
Intellectual: Debate wins, majority of the time.

Carl!
How can you say the community forum isn't intellectual. Binder keeps it that way with his constant bodily function polls... and no, I don't pee in the shower.

I say lower,
I would rather just shoot the crap with the folks here,
then get in to some debate about why bowling balls are round,
debate is fun at times, but like the man, and the name says,
this is a tech forum,
if it was not a tech forum, I for one would not be here,
well ok I might stick around long enough to see if Detritus ever gets
up the nerve to pee in the shower,
i'm folding for techimo!! what are you doing?

The Debate forum is a sub-forum (actually, more like a derivative) of the Community. Last I checked, the prefix "sub" means below. Therefore, it should be listed below the general Community forum.
I didn't know how to vote, so I just said "no more idiot polls".
