I'd imagine that not too many people read it.
Keeping current news up is a lot of work and there are hundreds of good sites out there with good recent tech news.
I usually watch HardOCP and Digg for news.

while ex is most likely correct I have to agree with you. I did follow the news as well and I do miss it. It was easy to sit and get some of the more interesting news without having to sort through digg before heading into the forums. Was my morning routine at work or in class for a long time :-\. Oh well... I'll have to check out hardocp, anyone have any other recommendations? |

As to the current situation, the news section was generating very little traffic as compared to the forums, thus the recent shift towards a path of site redesign and redirection more towards community aspects. We have shown significant community growth since shifting the frontpage focus.
However, assuming a few people are actually still interested in the news section, I can spend a little time every day or so to publish news blurbs like before. Might not be as frequent as before, though, as I recently shfited more of my online time to projects at other sites we operate.

For those wanting frequently updated tech news, give HardOCP a try. If it is even somewhat big tech news they'll probably have it. I think the FP is updated 4 or so times a day with new content (usually 4-8 things at a time I think). |

thanks ex. growth is necessary and if you aren't getting much traffic from the news page, no sense spending just a little time to drag it along. I'd rather see your efforts go into projects you see being successful in growing techimo and the affiliated sites. There are other news sites (personally I just liked coming here and having all the garbage already weeded out) but I'll check out hardocp to see how that looks |
