I don't think it matters. If the subject matter is still relevant and has the interest of the poster, then he/she shouldn't feel bad about bumping it. Of course some things are totally irrelevant such as a 5-year-old thread about someone needing help getting his computer to boot. I think by now he's figured it out or has a new computer.

Who cares? It's not that serious and doesn't happen often enough to warrant any "action" IMO. The system works fine the way it is, leave it be.
