Old Thread Warning
Is there any way to alert people to let them know they are posting to a thread that is shall we say...."Past its Prime" ..."Out of Date" ?
while there is nothing wrong with "Resurrecting the Dead" threads if there is a good reason to do so it may be helpful to point out the obvious to new members (and old) that they are replying to old News.

AS good as that idea is, I believe that Anything done will fail to "user error". IF the users ignore(and I mean WILL NOT read the dates) on the posts/threads, of what use will telling them that they are posting to an old thread do??
In any case about 1/3 to 1/2 is spam, pure and simple, not any intention of helping the thread. They say technology slows down for no one. I know it outruns my wallet. I figure its because my wallet isn't light enough yet.

I've never seen the warning option on a vBulletin site so it'd be a serious hack if it can be done.
On the other hand, auto locking threads that are more then X number of days old can be done. But, doing this can give the negative apperance of a heavy handed - heavily moderated site....The propeller is just a big fan in front of the plane used to keep the pilot cool. When it stops, you can actually watch the pilot start sweating.

I say locking the thread would be a better idea, they can still read it, but won't be able to reply to it.

Couldn't there be a message displayed at the top of the thread stating that the thread being viewed and/or last post is old?

Yea, it's called "looking at the date of the first thread".Unofficial TechIMO record holder for the number of times being added and removed from beemer's ignore list.

I have seen other boards where you get a prompt when posting to a thread more than one month old.

I don't think it matters. If the subject matter is still relevant and has the interest of the poster, then he/she shouldn't feel bad about bumping it. Of course some things are totally irrelevant such as a 5-year-old thread about someone needing help getting his computer to boot. I think by now he's figured it out or has a new computer.

Who cares? It's not that serious and doesn't happen often enough to warrant any "action" IMO. The system works fine the way it is, leave it be."Opinions not based on knowledge are ugly things"
