    Live Chat

I've seen this on other forum boards before, and I think it would be a nice perk for the members here.
I'm suggesting a live chat are for the members of TechIMO. Now I'm not trying to use this as a way to fix peoples problems. More of a community based chat. I think if we only allowed members with at least 50 posts or so in, just to avoid the people wanting "HELP NOW!!!111!"
You could assign mods to moderate it to keep everything under control.
All in all, I think it would be a hit..

    What do you think?

I'm for it, but with a 500, or 1000 post requirement

    Ok..
So why did you get rid of it?
I think it would be great for the IIJM'er crew. And the same for the folder bunch. I know I end up talking to someone via IM whenever I visit the site. I know I'm not the only one like that too.
Was there issues with it or what?

That was a while ago though - could be interesting especially for the debateIMO section .

Different chatrooms would be cool. I could see it getting to congested with just one chatroom. Just a suggestion.

    I agree with monsters.
Have a folder chat, a community thread, debate thread, and even a Moderator chat. It would be easier for the mods to talk that way too.
    Just a suggestion..

I think it's worth another shot. At least if we could have a quiz bot again! Right, Whir, you QuizMeister, you?!?

Yeah, it was done before, and if I remember correctly it was rarely used (Usually when I was there I was usually the only one). Wouldn't mind it again, but don't be surprised if it does not get utilized...

I agree with Karma a live chat would be great esspecially for the Debaters who ussually have to take up 50 posts to show there meanings in the last minute. Also I agree in a post number before there alowed to talk in live chat, or we will also have like Karma said people spamming *HELP ME!!1* and also maybe a few moderators watching the live chats so no one is being abusive of saying illegale content.

    What the jebus? Norway invasion.

I think all a live chat in the debate section would accomplish is the expediation of people's ire towards eachother. It's bad enough people can call eachother names, but with insta-chat, there's no time for cooling off and people will say much more abrasive things.

I can see both sides.. It would be great to chat and banter with those who have been around a while, with higher post counts. ...1000+ or something like that. But the arguments would be extremely annoying. It would have to have an ignore feature, for sure!!! :P

I don't think post count is gonna help with some of those DebateIMO fights. Um when was the last time you was in DebateIMO and looked at everyones post counts. Everyone of them would qualify for the post count option.

I agree with what you guys are saying, but there are a couple of steps that can be taken to avoid some of the problems your talking about.

    1. Moderate the chat. If mods are there, people are far less likely to insult each other.
    2. Have warnings. If someone chooses to insult/belittle someone, give them a warning. Now a warning could mean just warning, or it could mean your banned from chat for the next day or two, whatever mods decide. If enough warning are given to single person, they are banned from chat, plain and simple.

I don't think those will cure everything, but that should stop most people from going overboard.
And I agree, post count has nothing to do with self control.

Exactly, and as said Karma said maybe put a separate Debate place where the Debate topic is. I seriously think its a good idea, but yes fights could occur too.

Very true.. but someone with a higher post count is more likely to be attached and value their membership here, thus being banned or temporarily suspended will carry a greater weight. They have more to lose..
