60 seconds to report spam rule
Spammers need to <insert many adjectives that I havent used since I was in the Navy and would get me kicked of this site>.
When I see more than 1 spam thread, I try to report them when I see them.
This morning I again ran into this rule:I dont know if you can change it, but I think it could be better for the forum if it was changed to something like 20 to 30 seconds.Message
This forum requires that you wait 60 seconds between reporting posts. Please try again in 18 seconds. They say technology slows down for no one. I know it outruns my wallet. I figure its because my wallet isn't light enough yet.

I see that at least once a day.. lol
Really would be nice if we could report faster, but at the same time 60seconds doesn't take that long to pass either.Q6600@4Ghz | i7 920@4.4Ghz |E6320@3.5Ghz

Yeah, that old chestnut...
It is a pain when there are dozens of SPAM threads created, which just fill up the "Recent Discussions" box(/window/pane/whatever) and I try to report them all - but that message continually appears...
I was contemplating whether to suggest that (as I am often the one to see and report them, then have to wait until early after noon to see them get wiped) maybe I could 'quarantine' them somehow - until whenever the Mods are online to purge them... Alas, I never bothered with doing that as it prolly wouldn't happen...
If the delay setting could be changed, that'd make it easier for reporting though.............I've seen the light... It was green, flashy and attached to a Network Interface Card...Whenever someone says "You can't miss it", I invariably do...

No real need to report the same person more then once that does a does a dozens posts...The site has a Kill em and the horse he rode in on script.
Course the flip side, if they removed the 60 second rule...spammers could post more and quicker

I don't think there is a minimum time for posting - I've prolly posted about three times to three different threads within the last 60 seconds...
Regarding creating new threads, I don't know whether that is the case or not, and I didn't know about the "Kill em and the horse he rode in on" script/button doofrey...

THe fact is if you report a user once, and we see them as a spammer, we hit a button and every single thing they did is gone. So this only really comes up with there are multiple accounts involved which only happens once in a while. Thanks for reporting though

Well the thing is that there were 2 different spam threads(I thought by different authors as each had only 1 post) I found this morning. I reported one, backed out to the main PC Hardware and Tech - Tech Support Forums - TechIMO.com forum, and found another spam thread. I tried to report it and that is when I ran into the "wait 18 seconds" message. I thought I would suggest it this time.
FWIW -Um, for me it usually takes more than 10 seconds for the page to refresh after I have posted. That has never bothered me.They say technology slows down for no one. I know it outruns my wallet. I figure its because my wallet isn't light enough yet.

Understandable. The other thing is, when we come to clean up one, we usually notice the other spams too. If the Report option is separate from others we might lower it but we have had some people abuse it when they get upset with some one at the same time.

Yes, no need to spam the mods when you see spam, they can see it too once they are on site.

Did you hear about the spamar and the priest?
Spamar says, "Father, forgive me father for I have spammed."
Priest inquires, "What did you spam my son?"
Spamar inquires, "What is your E-mail."Last edited by Zrocker; August 7th, 2009 at 07:29 AM. Reason: even I can spell you

Don't blame the spammers, get together and blame the administrator. We are a tech forum right? Who in their right mind allows instant posting capability without email verification. Not only that, there's only FIVE ROTATING anti-spam phrases. That's it. Easily defeatable. (try it, log out and refresh the register page)
If everyone gets together and complains to the admin you can get him to change the board settings and not have to worry about nearly as much spam anymore!

There is no way I'd like email verification for every post I make on here.. that is a dumb idea.

You're kidding me right? What forum have you ever been to that has that? It's obvious that I'm talking about during the registration process.
For example, say if you were a spammer. We could ban you, then you could go sign up again with a different user name and the email address kjdgugh at oingbgbfjf dot com and INSTANTLY start posting again.
There is NO email sent to ones email addy by the forum software telling the user that they must confirm their email address before they are allowed to start posting on the forum. This is a standard anti-spam proceedure. Try it.

Nope. My hotel is about 7 miles from the airport, and I'll be working at a facility right next to the airport.
