Over the past few days I've seen at least 3 thread crop up which were started about 6-7 years ago. I really thing the forum should implement an auto-thread lock-up after a certain period has elapsed where there is no activity.
Other tech forums have taken this measure and is probably a much needed one. This may have been suggested before, but I seriosuly think it needs some re-considering...

I see nothing wrong with a date on a thread!
You people need to worry about something that really matters.... I have found ALOT OF GOOD STUFF ON THE BASES from years ago that were STILL VALID and worth replying to!!
Pleez stop making a scene about nothing @ all!! |

How can something 7 years old be worth replying to? The original thread starter would have had the issue resolved and may not even be a member anymore so who would you be benefiting exactly?
It just cloggs up the forum with old threads that are going no where at the top of the list. |

I've seen old threads with usable info, but the most important thing is most people that revive old threads, are new members.
That's how I got here, an old thread that came up in a web search.

I don't think it's a matter of milking a dead cow as much as just not knowing the poor stinky thing was dead.
How about a simple warning that the poster is replying to a thread in which the last post is over 2, 3, whatever years old, and ask "are you sure?". |
