copyrighted material on youtube

given that youtube and the music industry appear to have settled their differences over vids published on youtube... the vids are now legit.

any reason why music vids etc can't be inserted in posts.....?

AFAIK as long as it comes from the source then its ok, but just because its on youtube doesn't mean its legit. They have an agreement but, and that is a big but, copyrights still stand and you can't put videos on youtube unless you own the rights.

Um, so we are stuck with posting only links to the youtube.com page instead of being allowed to insert them into our posts?

No the youtube post tags (see this thread) to insert videos works just fine, the question was about copyrighted material, which as long as its from a legit source is fine. AFAIK anything else may be subject to removal.

From what I know of the agreement it didn't give open rights for anyone to upload videos or copyrighted material. YT is still removing and banning accounts for people that do, therefore I don't think we can share that content.

When it comes to music videos published to YouTube by mainstream studios, you will note many have content embedding disabled anyway, that way they can keep the content captive to YouTube.

Of note, I culled some of the outdated and underutilized bbcodes awhile back.

If anyone wants other (legal, legitimate, and within our rules) video or content sharing sites offering embedded players to be implemented at TIMO, let me know, and I will see what I can do.
