Noob Check List...
I'm thinking we need to see about making a Noob Check List that can later be used as a Sticky, that we can refer new members too...
its getting to be so annoying having to constantly reply back to New Members to ask them the most basic questions in regards to their posts.
("The More you can Help us, the better we can help you", should be the Tech/Help Sections Golden Rule, or at least one of them anways)
Like What Operating System they are running, Whats the Budget for Upgrades, what they use the PC for, etc etc...
I think I will start a Thread about this in the general Tech section, and then people can just post their suggestions for New Members Questions/Answers Check List that could later be refined and then stickied when requested.
for now, I'm just suggesting it, and see what others might think.
before making a thread and starting it.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

I recall seeing something similar on another site, it was something along the lines of posting etiquette or something similar. It had a few basic tips on what needs to be added to your post (OS systems specs ect ect), give details on what you've done/tried changed ect and a few tips on what not to do things like post "help" for a thread title, post in all caps, excessive bumping ect. There was also a section with a few tips on software (hijackthis, everest home, cpu-z ect)
Edit: This is a bit long but it was something along the lines of what I remember reading back when How To Ask Questions The Smart WayLast edited by RicheemxX; May 11th, 2010 at 10:17 PM.

Yeah you'd have to cut it down, I recall seeing some versions of it that were simplified I'll have to look around and see where they are. It would be nice to have something along a basic FAQ's or suggestions list like that sent with the welcome/confirmation email. If its just a sticky or just posted in the FAQs I doubt they'd bother reading it since it appears most don't bother to do so now.

True, but would be nice if they posted, then we could just reply with a link to it and ask them to read it and answer those questions, or state what they have or haven't done, checked, etc.
Rather than, My computer keeps crashing, can you tell me whats wrong?
or I need a new Graphics card to play the latest games and the highest settings, I have a Dell xxxxx what the best card for me...
or something along those lines, its getting to be annoying at least for me, and I know some others have stopped bothering to help because of this as well.
this day and age of all these kids running around with Cell Phones, and can't be bothered to read a stinking paragraph of text, or type out a complete or somewhat legible sentence, because they text so dang much, and the give me give me give me, I don't care how my PC or Console, or phone, or MP3 player works, as long as it works. if it breaks, I'll buy a new one attitudes these days, so many come to sites like this and don't even have the most basic information on their PC's or devices they need help with.
its the same way with people and their cars, some are not mechanically inclined with vehicles, I'm one of them, but I at least know how to change my own oil, air filter, tires, etc, and some other basic checking on the car, enough to let the mechanic know some of the symptoms instead of dropping it off at the shop and say to them "my car is making noises, do you know whats wrong? can you fix it?" and then expect them to know right there and then to tell me whats wrong, and how much will it cost.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

That would work, would be helpful if it were stickied in all the sections not just the basic technical support section, but at least now we know where to find it, copy the link and post it.
if it weren't closed, could add some more suggestions for questions to be answered and appended to it.
this would also be a nice touch for new members too.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

Some sites also warn you before you post when a thread is old, and some don't even allow posting to an old thread.

well call me a synic but weather replying to the same old stuff a thousand times over isnt it your job to ?? and if not dont reply?
reason i say this really is because im a PC literate person but i have very little know how on fix pc's and to be branded a noob and refered to the noob section as u call it i find very degrading and off putting and wouldnt recommend friend of a similar pc knowledge to you if you alrdy branded a noob.
Now i will give you a little somthing to think about regarding ur post and NOOBS?
you guys wouldnt be classed as PRO's without the exsistance of NOOBS? so you need us NOOBs just as much as we need you so Be nice

Or maybe of we spelled it Newbie it'd look better
Imagine a world where dogs took bad owners to the pound...

Define Amateur? Define Apprentice? Define Intern? Define Noob/Newb/Newbie?
Their all the same, regardless of what its referring to.
Would you get offended for being called an Amateur? Apprentice? Intern? Student? Probably not, so then don't worry about being classified as a Noob.
Its not like Being called the "N" Word or some other degrading title.
My post was intended towards those members where you ask them for certain answers, and they reply back with one, have to ask again, they reply back with another, ask again, on and on and on, until you have all the info you asked in the first reply.
Or the people that post a bland, generic, vague description of what is wrong with their PC and then expect an answer.
Like walking into a Car Repair shop and telling the Mechanic, its making funny sounds, and wants to know whats wrong.
With out more details, their guess is as good as yours.
Besides, the "Noob Check List" if made, was not going to be named that, but was worded as such to get the point across for the suggestion.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

@Semps - the suggestion was meant for posts exactly like this recent posting whereas little information was provided or in another recent case. Its pretty hard to help people, even the pro's, without them giving the most basic of info. Thus the idea of a sticky was tossed around that anyone can quickly link to instead of having to spend several mins typing out a response to ask for more info.
