DIMO Login/Logout
Would it be possible to allow members the ability to login & logout of DIMO? Being logged out would just hide all posts from that section. Thx

Im not sure im understanding your question, its just a section of the Techimo.

A better way to put it is being able to put a forum sub-section on or off of an ignore list.

As far as I know, no you cant remove it off the list. It was separated due to the nature of the content so you have the choice of clicking on the sub forum or not.
What issues do you have with DIMO?

I surf the forum using the New Posts or Today's Posts buttons, which does not exclude DIMO.
Some days (& weeks) I'd just rather not have the option to see it. At other times it is interesting to read.

I'm the same way. I normally browse the "most active" box first, then sub-forums from there. I generally stay out of DIMO myself. Maybe have a 3rd column like the "Recent Discussions" that's just DIMO threads, and make it collapsible? That wouldn't be hard to implement.

The Debate sub-forum of the IMO section.

So I think what you are saying is some days you just have no self control and can't help but to click the threads to open them...

I mean all we are talking about here is the difference between seeing a thread title or not. Its not like the Recent discussion where as you don't know which sub-forum the post is in. If you really don't want to visit its as simple as overlooking that thread. I do it on a daily basis

In vBulletin a new user group could be created... That group could be denied access to any section of the site... Members could then be added to the group.
It'd be easier to get a baseball bat and smack yourself anytime to felt the urge to go into DIMO

Yes it could be restricted so the guest group cant see it but i dont really see a need for that, doesnt seem to be a problem..

For You maybe.
But then again, some of us don't seem to see a need for some of the suggestions you've made.
I agree with JLK, I'm the same way, I think what it is, is a lot of days, and its something I've complained about on & off again over the years, but many days, we come on here for mainly the tech help sections, we click the New Posts link to find new active posts to comment on, and more than half of them are Debate threads, sometimes only a single help thread that may be at the arse end of a list of 3 pages or more in length full of active Debate section threads.
I know some like to be active in the Debate sections, and I on occasion post in them, but the main reason TechIMO exists is for the Help sections, and many days its mostly overshadowed by the Debate sections threads when looking through the New Posts/Today's posts link.
It really would be nice to be able to some how weed out those threads, or subsection of threads from a users New Postings link on their end or some means of this if at all possible.
IMO, it would be nice to make DIMO its own site like Reseller Ratings is, separate but yet still linked to TechIMO.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

Well I know we can do what Steve suggested, or well sort of, it would be more like we would place each user that asked to a list that is limited to the tech section only or access to the community can be limited. I don't think that that option restricts you from viewing the threads and likely wouldn't remove the posts from your view in the new posts search results though.

This is what JLK is talking about I do believe, clicked the new posts link, and first page is almost entirely DIMO and Community posts, with only ONE tech help link listed, 2nd page has 5 or 6 links with only 2 of them in tech help section.
Some days its even worse than that, 3 or 4 pages, and even more percentage of threads in list are DIMO.
Granted its due to traffic, but would be nice to just have tech help sections listed only, maybe Community section in with it too, since they aren't as numerous as the DIMO threads.
Its just that as JLK mentions some days we come on here and really don't want to have to wade through 70-90% debate threads in the new posts links, just to find the tech help ones.
Its more of a convenience thing that some of us are looking for.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

I always use the Mark Forums Read link as I'm leaving the site... When I come back I can see at a glance where new threads/posts are.

Exactly. I do understand the complaints and some of those may also be what type of device they are using to log in. If I ever tried to use my iPhone4 to log in, it would be a problem for me as well.
But, I discovered I could do what you do, and it works for me. Even though, I have never logged in on anything less than a PC.
Stand UP 2 Cancer,,,almost 8 years out on my pancreatic cancer Steve. I am now the poster child at Vanderbilt University. And I had the full Whipple procedure and 6 months of 24/7 chemo, carried the IV bag and pump in a fanny pak and never quit calling on clients. Pretty amazing technology, it would run for one week, almost to the hour on one Double AA battery. I still get Doc checked once a month and CA19-9 tumor marker scores are down to 8. 35 is normal. Long live technology!
( Although, the Whipple procedure was invented in 1935! )
