Yeah, I like the idea, and think there needs to be some way to manage all the links.
One of the big problems is the crosslinking, but I think I know how to tackle that due to some work I've been doing recently on a different project.
So, what about this.... Say there was a section called, I don't know, User Links... bah... and allowed users to insert links for all thier favorite web sites, and allow them to categorize all the stuff real nice. In doing so, allowing a single link to be placed into multiple categories, and a category be referenced in multiple parent categories. Escentialy creating a hierarchy of user organized links.
If users were doing the organizing of the links, obviously one person would organize it differently than another, so if someone else comes along and thinks a link should also be put in another category, they can do that... and then they would have it organized the way they would have done it. But it wouldn't move it, just make a reference in the new category.
There could be a system in place where a user could mark the link as being dead... and eventualy unlisted from the database.
You could reference links by category, the user that submitted the link, or search descriptions of links... Users could in essence bookmark certain categories, or users, so that they can find them quickly at a later date. There could be a place listing all the bookmarked items, or if you were browsing, an item that is bookmarked would be a different color or whatever...
Oh... hmm link ranking sounds cool... nice idea Scott.
I don't know, the sky is the limit, what do you think? |
