Intel P-M 1.5GHz and Toshiba A10

Hi fellas.

I have bought processor for my laptop Toshiba Satellite A10. Installed in, everything looks good, but... when i plug in power source, and turn laptop on, it dont do nothing, just the first (from left ) LED start to light (maybe better, start to blink ) in yellow color, normaly it is in green color. CPU do not work (it dont produce any warm , i tried not to gave this plastic cover back and passive cooling was cold). Im not PC n00b but laptop CPUs' are really unknow parts of pc world for me .
So the cpu i have bought is:

Type: CPU / Microprocessor
Family: Intel Pentium M
Processor number: 715A
Part number: RH80536GC0212MT
Frequency (MHz): 1500
Bus speed (MHz) : 400
Clock multiplier : 15
Package type
: 478-pin Micro-FCPGA
Processor core: Dothan
Manufacturing technology (micron): 0.09
L2 cache size (KB):
2048

On the laptop's socket is written:
Foxconn (probably the motherboard brand )
mPGA479M socket

Old laptop's CPU is Intel Celeron 2.2GHz, 256kB L2 and it works on 400MHz BUS speed.

I really dont know why it dont works. And by the way, when i put back old CPU, laptop work OK so no mechanical damage was made with trying of new CPU. And i added a new CPU image, its not my photo:

As you can see there is written SL89U but on intel web page -> processor finder it didnt find any CPU, so that is second "mystery" for me .

Thank you guys for help.

I'm not surprised that a Dothan Pentium M CPU will not work in a laptop motherboard designed for a Northwood Mobile Celeron.

Asus made a Pentium M adapter for socket 478 a while back... BUT it only worked with specific motherboards AND you needed to have a BIOS flash to support it.

You might be able to upgrade to a Northwood based Pentium 4 M CPU.

As DanU said, that Pentium-M probably won't work in your laptop. Not that the CPU is no-good, it's just very likely incompatible.

Hope you can get an exchange.......

incompatible pin-out

eventhough the socket formfactor is the same, pinouts vary among pentium M, 4/celery, and pentium 3m. u can upgrade celery to P4m as long as it is rated for same FSB speed.
a 478-479 adaptor is unlikely to fit in a notebook.

these P4-M CPU's are compatible (they also have speedstep so you have longer running time if you use your laptop with battery, i wouldn't take a celeron): (P4-M 1.4-2.2 mhz exist but are probably not interesting for you) SL6VC 2.4ghz, SL6LS 2.4ghz, SL6K5 2.4ghz, SL6WY 2.5 ghz, SL6P2 2.5ghz, SL6WZ 2.6ghz, these are all 400mhz bus speed of course, i upgraded my Toshiba A10 from Celeron 2.0 to P4-m 2.5ghz, if you search you can find these models on E-bay, but don't be surprised by the prices, they are very high for 2.5 and 2.6 ghz as these are the highest speeds available for this platform
here's the full list, only the 400mhz are compatible: http://processorfinder.intel.com/Lis...=826&SearchKey=
