DVD drive problems in XP pro

when i put a disk in my dvd drive it causes my system to kind of "hang" as long as the disk is in. i can move my mouse but nothing happens when i click on anything. when i eject the disk everything goes back to normal and if i tried to open my computer or anything while it was hung up it opens.

Fastest way to troubleshoot the problem would be to switch it out with a known working drive, and see if problems persist. If not, the drive is the problem.

Is this a new drive, or did problems just suddenly appear?
Any hardware changes recently?

Make sure the IDE or SATA and power cords are pushed in snug to the drive and motherboard.

I own a NEC ND-3550A

Are you using a software like DLA or something similar that allows you to burn onto a disk in real time. Nero has tool that does this too, but can't remember the name. If you do have such a tool installed I would uninstall it and see what happens. There is something causing your machine to freeze. Press and hold alt, tab then del. What do you have there? Press prnt scren and paste in paint, upload here.

Nero info. tool may help you.

It was probably an autoplay problem, but reinstallation fixes all!
